For the simulation model of Problem 6 in the previous chapter, the magnitude of torque required to keep the crank turning at a constant angular velocity of 2π(rad/s) is obtained as the reaction torque of the axial rotation joint about the z-axis (the crank torque). Code 1 below is a MATLAB script that reads the jnt file and plot the crank torque with respect to time.

Fung presented the kinematic and dynamic analyses of the intermittent slider – crank mechanism. The connecting rod is connected with a pneumatic cylinder and a spring model. Mohammad Ranjbarkohan used ADAMS software and Newton’s law for analyzing slider crank mechanism to investigate the effect ofengine RPM on crankshaft and connecting rod. However,no work is performed to find out the response of the slider block and the reaction forces at joint between crank shaft and connecting rod.
